The Clerk’s Office serves as the gateway to open and accessible government. The office provides quality services to the Mayor, Common Council, staff, and the public in an efficient and responsive manner to create the highest standards of ethics and integrity. We serve the citizens of Ashland through a variety of services, and we provide a dependable resource for information and services provided by the City of Ashland.
Note that final election results are handled by the Ashland County clerk.
Responsibilities of the Clerk
The Mayor, with the Common Council approval, appoints the City Clerk. The Clerk administers the office and is responsible for:
Administer oaths and affirmations
Assume care and custody of the corporate seal and all papers and records of the city
Attend meetings of the Council and keep a full record of its proceedings
Conduct Board of Canvass
Conduct Board of Review
Coordinate legal publications
Council agendas and minutes
Liaison to the public
Manage City insurance
Serve as Secretary to City Council
Supervise election activities
Supervise issuance and recording of licenses and permits
