The Parks and Recreation Committee was created to advise the City of Ashland’s Parks and Recreation Department to provide and improve the recreational resources of the City. Their support of the Department provides an enhanced quality of life and a larger sense of community. Offering quality programming and services is accomplished through preserving, maintaining, and improving:
Members of the Committee report directly to the Parks and Recreation Department Director to recommend programs, activities, games, contests, and festivals for the residents and visitors alike. With each of these, the Committee will help regulate the activities by developing guidelines and rules for the use of facilities and those who use them.
The Committee is composed of seven members appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by Council, serving one- to three-year terms beginning on May 1. Six members are citizens of the City, and one member is appointed from the Common Council. Meetings are open to the public, and the Committee invites community involvement and input at all meetings. The accomplishments of the Committee are evident throughout the City with the quality upgrades in the parks, clean up at the beaches and improvements of the waterfront.
If this Committee sounds like something you would like to contribute to, send in your completed Offer to Volunteer form (PDF) to the Mayor at City Hall, or contact the City Clerk’s office for more information at 715-682-7071.
