2023 Ashland county cleansweep newsflash

Organizers in nine northwestern Wisconsin counties working collaboratively with Northwest Regional Planning Commission have scheduled the Ashland County hazardous materials collection on Tuesday, June 20 from 2 to 6 PM at the Northwood Technical College (2100 Beaser Ave) in parking lot on Beaser Ave.

Anyone living in any of the nine counties can participate in any of the events, including those in Ashland, Bayfield, Burnett, Douglas, Price, Rusk, Sawyer, Taylor, and Washburn counties.

Can’t make the Ashland County event? No problem—See if one of these dates and locations works for you.

In 2022, participants brought in 7,960 pounds of hazardous materials, safely keeping them out of waterways and landfills. This included pesticides, herbicides, PCBs, oil paint, solvents and thinners, caustics/corrosives, and other chemicals. In addition, 1,246 fluorescent and other bulbs were turned in, as well as 70 pounds of NiCad batteries.

They gave a free recycled plastic pen to all participants to thank them for safely disposing of their toxic materials and protecting the community. You can find more about what Ashland County UW Extension does to inform residents, businesses, and farms about best management practices on the UW Extension website.
