It is against the law to consume from, or possess an open container of alcoholic beverage on any street, parking lot, or public right of way. With the exception of Memorial Park (The Bandshell) you may consume or possess alcoholic beverages on City beaches and City parks provided you are not using glass containers or containers with an excess of 5 gallon capacity. For a fee, you may obtain a permit from the Office of the City Clerk to possess alcoholic beverages in the Memorial Park are and for quantities in excess of 5 gallons. In any case, a public area must be returned to its "pre-use" state, and for large gatherings where a permit is required, a $100 dollar clean-up deposit will be returned only following an approved inspection of the area.

The State of Wisconsin does not consider all motor vehicle crashes reportable. The criteria for a reportable crash are: damage to one vehicle exceeding $1000 dollars or, injury or death, damage to governmental property exceeding $500 dollars or, hit and run.

Block parties may be permitted in the City of Ashland. For more information on permits, or obtaining a permit, please call the Ashland Police Department at 715-682-7062. 

No person shall burn grass, leaves, or garbage within the City Limits. This provision shall apply to open burning, burn barrels, outdoor wood burners, fireplaces, and indoor incinerators. 

The following burning is permitted: outdoor cooking, campfires, or burning related to training for Fire Departments.

The City of Ashland prohibits the use of rollerblades, roller skates, skateboards, and bicycles on sidewalks on the Main Street corridor. This area is bounded by US Hwy 2 on the North, 3rd Street on the South, Stuntz Avenue on the East, and 9th Avenue West on the West. The law requires that all bicycles operated in a public area within the City of Ashland must be registered. Bring your bicycle information including brand, model, and serial number to the Treasure's Office or Ashland Police Department during administrative hours. A one time fee of $1.00 dollar is required at time of registration 

The Ashland Police Department encourages Ashland citizens to participate in our Ride-Along Program. You will be able to see your officers in action and develop a better understanding of the role of Law Enforcement in our community. For information on this program, contact the Police Department at 715-682-7062 during administrative hours (8am-4pm).  

With the exception of campers with valid permits, ALL City Parks close at 10:00pm and open again at 6:00am, that includes Maslowski Beach.

Prentice Park and Kreher Park in the City of Ashland have designated campgrounds. Permits to camp at these locations can be purchased from the Ashland Parks Department.  

In the City of Ashland, juveniles under the age of 13 years old must be out of businesses, public areas, and off the streets by 9:30pm, unless accompanied by a parent/guardian. Juveniles age 13 years old to 17 years old must be out of businesses, public areas, and off the street on all nights by 10:30pm, unless accompanied by a parent/guardian. Parents may be held in violation of this City Ordinance if they knowingly permit their children to be out after curfew. The State of Wisconsin regards a 17 year old citizen an adult for the purpose of all prosecution and fines.

Fireworks of all kinds in the City of Ashland are prohibited, unless you apply for a permit.

The City of Ashland has enacted a Noise Ordinance based either on decibel level ratings or unusual noises. Generally, most loud noise is prohibited between the hours of 10:00pm and 7:00am, and includes such noise-making activities as operating lawn or snow removal equipment, playing musical instruments or radios, televisions and stereo equipment. 

There is an exception of emergency abatement, construction activities are generally prohibited between the hours of 9:00pm and 6:00am. 

If you plan on being away from your home for more than a week, please contact the Ashland Police Department at 715-682-7062 to provide emergency contact information. 

The Ashland Police Department does provide service for vehicle lockouts, if there is a child or animal in the vehicle. If Officers are unable to unlock your vehicle, there are several local businesses that do provide this service for a fee.
